Better start out with some FAQ's.
1. Why the move to Hong Kong? It was the first question I asked myself and continue to ask myself daily! The short answer is that Ron is now working for Coca Cola Pacific - and the job is in Hong Kong - hence the move. The long answer is that after 20 years at WAMU, Ron found himself with no company to work for last September. The failure of WAMU was hard to watch and the idea of working for Chase didn't appeal to Ron, so off to the job market he went. Chase asked Ron to stay on until March 1st, which he did, and then promptly left for Coca Cola on March 5th.
2. When are you moving to Asia?Ron moved on the 5th of March and John (14) and I will be moving on July 30th. Our house is packed up and most has been shipped to our small apartment in Hong Kong. New address:
The Gailey's
Hong Kong Parkview
77 7/F Tower #14
88 Tia Tam Reservoir Road
Hong Kong
3. Are you scared or excited? Both! It is going to be an amazing adventure - but leaving my family, especially our other children, Audrey (25) and her husband Toren, David (23) And Laura (18) will be the hardest. But, for the most part, we are excited for this new opportunity and John can't wait to start high school there.
4. How long will you be there and do you get to come home?Time is a funny thing - sometimes we want it to go fast and sometimes we want it to creep along very slowly. Our commitment to Coca Cola Pacific is for at least two years. We would like to stay for four to let John get the benefit of the wonderful high school education he will have access to. But, as with anything, time is usually not our own.
John and I will be home during the Christmas holidays and for about 8 weeks each summer. I hope to fly home to see Audrey, David and Laura at least two other times during the year. It is a mom's duty, right!
5. How do you stay in touch with all your family and friends? That is the reason for this blog - duh! I will have email and, for my very special friends, phone access. So make sure to add my blog to your favorites to keep up on all of my Hong Kong adventures!
